After a few weeks of juggling other work, we're back in the shop and back on the blog. If the last few posts were about concept and connection, this week is about something a little more tangible: materials.

We always knew this collaboration would come down to wood and stone. But finding the right versions of each, the ones that truly speak the same language, has taken time, experimentation, and more than a few side-by-side comparisons in the workshop.

the Search

On the wood side, walnut quickly became the frontrunner. It’s rich, warm, and just textured enough to feel alive without overpowering. We tested a few cuts—some with tighter grains, others with more movement—and started narrowing in on what felt right.

For stone, the process is still unfolding. The team at MÁRMÁRA has pulled together a beautiful range of options, each with its own energy and potential. We’ve been looking at tone, texture, veining, and finish—searching for something that complements the walnut without competing with it.

Why We're Taking Our Time

It would be easy to rush this part—pick something beautiful and move forward. But we’re not just building a product. We’re building something that holds weight—visually, emotionally, and physically.

The materials we choose now will do the talking later. When someone walks past our booth at IDS, or runs their hand across the piece in a quiet space, we want the wood and stone to say something. Something that feels grounded, considered, and intentional.

Getting to that point takes time. It means rejecting options that are almost right. It means revisiting proportions, finishes, and combinations again and again. It means slowing down, even when the clock is ticking. But it’s worth it—for the feeling of something that just fits.

Where We're At

Right now, we’re deep in the process. Comparing samples, testing proportions, and trusting our instincts. The materials are speaking—and we’re listening.
