Care Guide
Protecting the longevity and beauty of natural materials
Solid hardwood furniture brings warmth, character, and durability into any space. With the right care, your piece can last for generations. Because wood is a natural, living material, it responds to its environment, and how it’s treated over time matters.
GENERAL CARE FOR ALL ENVIRONMENTS
1. Climate & Humidity
Wood breathes. It expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity.
- 40–55% relative humidity
- Avoid placing furniture next to radiators, vents, or fireplaces
- Sudden shifts in climate—like placing a piece in a damp basement or dry, air-conditioned room—can cause warping or cracking over time.
2. Cleaning & Maintenance
- Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth or a microfiber cloth.
- Clean with mild soap and water only—no commercial disinfectants unless confirmed safe for wood.
- Never use harsh chemical cleaners, ammonia, silicone-based products, or polish sprays with wax.
- Oil or wax finishes: Depending on the finish type, you may be advised to re-oil or wax the piece periodically. Ask us if you're unsure which finish your piece has.
3. Surface Protection
- `Use coasters, placemats, and felt pads under anything that sits on the surface.
- Wipe spills immediately—especially liquids like wine, coffee, or oil that can stain or leave rings.
- Avoid plastic or rubber items (like some vase bottoms or electronics), as they can react with the finish and cause discoloration over time.
4. Weight & Movement
- Lift furniture when moving it. Never drag, especially across uneven floors.
- Don’t overload tabletops or shelves. While solid wood is strong, stress on joints or uneven pressure can lead to bowing or damage over time.
